2nd foray into 2005 Claret
Have you ever tasted a really good bottle of claret? I don’t mean a Château Latour or Mouton Rothschild, there are much cheaper wines that are truly excellent.
When you find one, your mouth zings and you make a strange face like you’ve just reached orgasm and everyone looks at you like you’re a nutter.
My recently delivered case of 2005 Bordeaux yielded a beauty the other day. Château Haut Sociondo, Premières Côtes de Blaye.
All I can say is that it looked and tasted purple. The flavour was intense and astonishing. OK so it’s a little rough around the edges but it’s a young wine and remember it only cost about £6!
A real stunner. I am really impressed by 2005 – it’s not just hype. But I am still convinced that the way to get value from Bordeaux is to buy cheap wines in a good year. So I won’t be wasting too much of my hard earned cash on the fine châteaux from 2005, but I will be investing in the less well known marques!
If you are interested in this particular bottle by the way you can get it in the UK from the Wine Society at £5.50. My quick Google search did not find any other dealers selling this wine although some had older vintages.
